Visiting Chiang Mai

Visiting Chiang Mai University

During the conference, I and my friend Muhammad Rusli went to Chiang Mai University. We took a walk to main road from our hotel, then went to Chiang May University by the truck or pickup, a public transportation that were bright red, souped up pick-up trucks that more or less function as buses anyway and while not having fixed routes – the first passenger to get in determines the route – they would stop and drop off anyone, anywhere on their way. Flat fare to Chiang Mai University was 20 baht, and we paid 4o bath for two person. Departing at Chiang Mai University, we saw the gate to the university with the picture of Thai King.

Entering the university area we needed a car as campus transportation, and get off at the Computer Science Department, Faculty of Science. Asst. Prof. Dr. Samerkae Somhom, Head of Computer Science Department, were waiting for us and she pleased us to take a seat in a meeting room. After Kanokwatt had come, we discussed many things about academic, research, and publication. She said that she was ready to collaborate with Kalbis Institute in creating an international conference, and welcoming to doctoral students in Computer Science

Chiang Mai Flower Festival

The Flower Festival Parade lined up along Charoen Muang Road, all the way from the Nawarat Bridge to the train station. Living up to the name ‘Rose of the North,’ Chiang Mai organised the Chiang Mai Flower Festival to showcase its beautiful flowers and decorative plants which were in full bloom towards the end of the winter season in 6 February 2016. The flower parade moved very slowly, and stoped frequently. Western-style marching bands from local schools and local drumming groups were interspersed among the floats. Dancers in traditional costumes performed Thai dances, and often those taking part in the flower parade hand out flowers to the spectators.

Early in the morning we went to Suan Buak Hat Park to see the Flower Festifal. Because we had not known how to get there, we went to the location by taxi 200 bath from the hotel. It was very expensive because we could get back to hotel again in the afternoon just paid only 125 bath by tuk-tuk. The floral floated compete to find the most beautiful and creative display, and the best float for cultural preservation received a trophy from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Other highlights include plant and flower sales, as well as several kinds of competitions.

Spending Suturday night in Chiang Mai, we went to Night Bazaar, we went and back to the location by tuk-tuk. We went around in the bazaar to see some souvenirs, and I could see that Chiang Mai was a nice city with friendly people, cheap transportation, and cheap food. It was why there were many tourists liked travelling tio Chiang Mai. Comparing to Jakarta, I happened to have dinner and took portion of salmon steak that costed IDR 60,000, I could had it in Chiang Mai just 100 bath (IDR 36,000).

Flight to Jakarta

The day after we went home to Jakarta, dropped by Kanokwatt to the Airport. I did not watched the whole airport when I had came, because I maight be very tired. This time I could see that the airport is not so big, but it was very beautiful and modern. I supposed that everyting was expensive at the airport, as I knew in Jakarta, Hongkong, etc., but the souvenirs and food were not so expensive.

The day after we went home to Jakarta, dropped by Kanokwatt to the Airport at 13.00 pm. I did not watched the whole airport when I had came, because I maight be very tired. This time I could see that the airport is not so big, but it was very beautiful and modern. We arrived at Bangkok airport in the afternoon, and a \n Air Asia attendant guided us transfered to international flight. The first time I did is having lunch. I chose a box of rice with manggo. I did not know wheter it was delicious or not, because it was food that I had never met before. Yeah .. it was delicious, When I were waiting time to board, I met a Vietnamese girl named Nguyen Trang, who would go back to Hanoi having vacation from India. She was studying Fine Art in London, and she said that India was her second home country.

She had lots of friends in India so she just felt like she was from there. There was a long list of reasons behind the fact that she felt attached to it. Going to India was just like going home to her, she prefered it to Viêtnam honestly, because she colud fit in better with the society. She had fewer friends in Nepal than she did in India but it' was kind of the same story. She stayed with mher friend' family and tought at a primary school in there. She was very kind and loyal to her country, and said that her dream is doing the best for her people. A brilliant nice girl that was hard to find a young student who had a vision like her. Good luck Trang.
